Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust (RAOST) is bringing Roald Dahl’s beloved classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to life in a musical adaptation, set to transport audiences into the magical world of Willy Wonka at the Hall for Cornwall’s Cornwall Playhouse.
The show will run from July 30 to August 2.
Directed by Helen Hartshorne, the production promises a fresh and imaginative take on the timeless tale, filled with chocolate rivers, golden tickets, and mischievous Oompa Loompas.
Helen Hartshorne, director of the show, said: “Bringing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to the stage has been a true celebration of creativity, heart, and pure imagination.
“This production invites audiences of all ages to rediscover the magic of storytelling – where the unexpected becomes possible, and where compassion and curiosity lead the way.
“It’s been a joy to reimagine this world with our incredibly talented cast and crew.”
The show features a talented local cast and is designed to be a theatrical experience the whole family can enjoy.
RAOST is a community-based theatre group with a long-standing tradition of entertaining audiences across Cornwall.
Founded in 1909, the group is dedicated to producing high-quality amateur productions and providing opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the performing arts.
It marks their first full week-long production at the Hall for Cornwall since 2012 and their first since the venue’s recent refurbishment.
The cast includes several returning RAOST members who have previously graced the Hall for Cornwall stage, including Gareth Harris as Grandpa Joe, Frankie Millard as Mrs Bucket, Trenton Spear-Williams and Roxanne Dash as Mr and Mrs Beauregarde, and ensemble members Natasha Shrigley and Rachel Barratt.
Helen Hartshorne is no stranger to the stage herself, having played leading roles with the society, including Polly in Crazy For You and Nancy in Oliver.
The cast also features Ella Baker as one of the Violet Beauregardes and Kerra Brownlee as one of the Veruca Salts.
Both have appeared in the Hall for Cornwall pantomime.
Steve Hill, musical director for this production, also served as musical director for last year’s pantomime.
RAOST has entertained audiences with a wide range of musicals over the years, including Crazy For You, Oliver, 42nd Street, Fiddler on the Roof, Carousel, The Sound of Music, and Titanic.
Their latest production promises to continue that tradition, offering audiences a vibrant and imaginative journey into the world of Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory.
Featuring dazzling sets, unforgettable songs, and plenty of surprises, the show is set to delight both children and adults alike.
