New Cornwall Council Cabinet and committee members revealed

The membership of the council’s various committees has also been revealed, with Reform UK – the largest party on the council – having a majority representation alongside the Lib Dems.

Cornwall Council’s Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Leigh Frost announced the appointment of his new Cabinet last week. Independent councillor and former Cornwall Council leader from 2017 to 2019, Adam Paynter, is his deputy and portfolio holder for resources.

Penzance’s Jim McKenna (Independent) is in charge of adult social care and health partnerships, while Saltash’s Hilary Frank (Liberal Democrats) is cabinet member for children, families and schools.

Newly elected Liberal Democrat councillor Sarah Preece (Lostwithiel & Lanreath), who was executive director of leading London performing arts college Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts as well as Battersea Arts Centre, is cabinet member for tourism, localism and planning. Her fellow Lib Dem Thalia Marrington (Mousehole, Newlyn & St Buryan) will oversee community safety and public health.

Truro councillor and former Independent group leader Loic Rich is named cabinet member for environment and climate change, while Penzance Independent councillor Tim Dwelly is in charge of economic regeneration and investment. Independent Bude councillor Peter La Broy is cabinet member for housing.

Former Lib Dem MP Dan Rogerson, who represented North Cornwall from the 2005 general election until his defeat in 2015, and is now councillor for Bodmin St Mary’s & St Leonard, is named cabinet member for transport.

The structure of the majority of the council’s various committees has also been published, with the two largest parties in the chamber – Reform UK and Libs Dems – taking the majority of the seats. The chairs and vice-chairs will be elected at the inaugural meetings.
