
Here is a round-up of the councillors winning seats in The Packet print circulation areas:
Liberal Democrat Rob Nolan kept his seat in the Truro Boscawen & Redannick division, comfortably polling 721 votes to 352 by second placed Vanda Arthur for Reform.
The Truro Moresk seat was one of the closest run between the top three placing candidates, with former Truro mayor Steve Webb taking victory for the Liberal Democrats with 373 votes.
However, only 29 votes separated him from second placed Reform candidate Simon Rogers, who polled 344, and an even narrower nine votes separated him from third placed candidate Christopher Wells for the Conservatives.
In the Truro Tregolls division Independent Loic Rich won with one of the most convincing majorities of the whole election, taking 1,344 votes – a 74 per cent share of the 1,827 votes cast.
In comparison, the second placed candidate, Reform’s Rheya Baird, polled just 250 votes.
In Threemilestone & Chacewater, Independent Dulcie Tudor kept her seat despite competition from Reform candidate Paul Whitehouse.
Martyn Alvey was one of just seven Conservative candidates to win seats, from a possible 97 at Lys Kernow/County Hall. He won his in the Feock & Kea division.
Karen La Borden took the Gloweth, Malabar & Shortlanesend seat for the Green Party, replacing former Tory deputy council leader David Harris who stood down.
Perranporth was won by Louise Blackman for Reform UK, and St Ages by Pete Mitchell for the Liberal Democrats.
Over in Redruth, Carharrack and St Day, former portfolio holder for transport Connor Donnithorne may not be keeping his place on the cabinet after the Conservatives had a terrible day at the polls, but he has kept his seat.
Reform claimed Redruth North, with Roger Tarrant taking 48 per cent of the votes and pushing former Labour incumbent Stephen Barnes into second place.
It was similar story in Redruth South, where former Tory cabinet member for children and families Barbara Ellenbroek only made it to third place, while Reform’s Sally Harrison took the win.
There was a further win for Reform in Pool and Tehidy thanks to Susanne Desmonde polling more than half the votes.
Camborne mayor James Ball won the Cornwall Council seat for Camborne Roskear and Tuckingmill, although it was a close-run contest with Reform candidate John Tsoupakis, with only 61 votes separating them.
Independent Paul White kept his seat for Camborne Trelowarren after polling 50 per cent of the votes.
However, it’s a new councillor for Camborne West and Treswithian, after Karen Knight won the seat for Reform.
The Illogan & Portreath division was won by Reform’s Cliff Crawford, and Four Lanes, Beacon & Troon went to another Reform candidate Bruce Craze, while Independent John Thomas MBE won the Lanner, Stithians & Gwennap seat.
Moving on to West Cornwall and it was a comfortable win for Independent Tim Dwelly in Penzance East.
Similarly in the Penzance Promenade division, Jim McKenna kept his seat by some margin.
Even further west, Thalia Marrington kept her seat for Mousehole, Newlyn and St Buryan, polling more than 1,000 votes.
Helston town councillor John Martin took the Cornwall Council seat in the Long Rock, Marazion & St Erth division for the Liberal Democrats.
Gwinear-Gwithian & Hayle East was won by Reform’s Rob Heslington, with fellow Reform candidate Peter Channon taking Hayle West.
City, town and parish councils
There were also elections taking place for Redruth Town Council, one Truro City Council ward and some parish councils. The remaining councils and wards saw candidates elected uncontested.
