Free chocolate and drinks for everyone at clifftop drive-in cinema

A popular clifftop drive-in cinema is back with even more films this summer – launching this Friday (July 16).

Wavelength Media’s Drive-In Summer Cinema Series is back with a bang – bigger, better and more bodacious than ever – based on the beautiful cliff overlooking Watergate Bay beach, near Newquay.

As well as a huge programme of films for everyone, locals can get 20% off and every visitor will receive a free bar of chocolate and drink.

Visitors who live in Cornwall should simply use the code ‘LOCAL20’ when booking, typing in their postcode, to take advantage of the offer (excluding Sunday’s viewing of Fisherman’s Friends).

Film screenings begin on Friday and continue over the following weekends, every Thursday through to Sunday, at 12pm and 6.45pm.

Focusing on family fun, the launch weekend has something for everyone with the line-up including fun-loving Surf’s Up, followed by surf cult-classic Big Wednesday.

Saturday’s features are Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and the much-loved Dirty Dancing, while the theme of surfing is revisited on Sunday with cool classic Blue Crush, before the weekend closes with 2019 hit Fisherman’s Friends, a feelgood tale of the local boys who done good.

Every visitor throughout the summer series will receive a complimentary exclusive bar of ethical brand Tony’s Chocolonely chocolate, a refreshing pint of Lucky Saint non-alcoholic beer, a Sipsmith FreeGlider and Tonic overlooking the ocean (a non-alcoholic gin and tonic) and a Jimmy’s Iced Coffee – all of which are perfect ‘drivers’ drinks’ and in full keeping with the family-oriented focus of the sessions.

And if you or the kids feel the need for something more, there’s plenty of food options available, delivered direct to your car door throughout the evening, all in line with the latest government advice on Covid safety measures. There’s also live music, singalongs and socially distanced games.

Guy Hayler, director of the Wavelength team, said: “Our careful selection of films set on or around the ocean, alongside a host of classic movies, offer our audiences a truly unique, immersive experience, watching the sea on the screen, while the surf rolls in below them.

“Our film selections also mean we can showcase Cornwall’s favourite sport while offering a bit of a hat tip to our location – close to the UK’s most famous surfing beach. Cornwall’s popularity as a tourist destination is increasing, thanks to so many holidaying in the UK this year, and our recognition as one of the UK’s best cinema experiences means we’re able to play a role in supporting and promoting our fantastic county.”

He added: “Given that the region’s fast becoming the staycation choice du jour, most family-friendly tourist attractions are already booked up for the whole summer with tourists having to be organised and book before their trips. But with space for over 200 cars and vans at every viewing, the Cinema Series still has plenty of tickets available, though they’re selling fast, so make sure you get yours today.”

Tickets for the drive-in events are available at a cost of either £6 per person or £26 per car or van and driver with a maximum of five people per vehicle. This year, the team is also offering the option to purchase an open-air cinema ticket for £7 per head.
